4 Monster Friends [Action/Voice]

[ When Arietta first comes back to the village, she doesn't think much of it. Sure, there are a few new faces around, but she was kidnapped right before another New Feather cycle.

But as she makes her way back to House 47, things seem a bit strange. Dated, even. And they only get stranger when she finds out just who else is in House 47.

Finally she decides enough is enough, and goes for the journals.

Anyone who's met Arietta might notice that at the moment, she seems a bit... well. Older. ]



Hello. Um, I was wondering. Is Yushen listening to this? Or Wiz? [ Who else has been in Luceti for a long time...? ] Cloche?

If any of you hear this, I want to talk to you...

Does that really count as being able to talk to monsters? Asking them questions and then repeating back whatever noise they make?

[ Well, it's a little more complicated than that, but to an outsider observer who doesn't understand monsters (especially one who is a little uncharitable), there hasn't been much of a difference from a normal person talking to their pets. ]

It's a part of it. Besides, most monsters here can understand me when I use human language just fine. Being able to understand them is really important, too!

It's hard to tell if you really understand them if you just get back a bunch of chirping for a name. I mean, I guess I can take your word for it, but it's still hard to tell.

Maybe I don't, but I'm not too worried about missing out on talking to monsters.

[ Even if she currently has a monster pet, she's not too fond of them in general. ]

[ Usually. Ion gets to be an exception ok. ]

[Wow, that seems...really sad to Fenimore. She can't see how that could be true unless the people she'd met had been terrible. She attempts to conceal her look of pity with moderate success.]

Maybe you haven't met the right people yet.

Maybe you haven't met the right monsters yet!

[ She highly doubts it! Monsters are dangerous. But she doubts she'd get anywhere trying to argue this. ]

Maybe, but making friends with monsters is completely different from having people as friends. Everyone needs a few people as friends.

Why would I need human friends if I have monsters?

[...Wow, this is a bad case. And this woman got this old thinking like this?]

Because you aren't a monster. You're a human.

[Says the person who isn't a human herself, though she sees a lot more extreme a divide between herself and monsters than herself and humans.]

[ It helps that she's had to settle for humans in Luceti while still holding monsters on a mental pedestal... ]

So? So, um. You aren't going to have the same -- priorities? Ideas?

[ ...This reasoning is hard to words. ]

It just...seems like it would be really lonely, that way.

I wasn't lonely.

[ At least, she doesn't think she was. It was a long time ago, and she's long since had the time to idealize that period of her life in her memories. She was never lonely when she had monsters around her, just like she was never lonely when she had Ion around her. ]

People are the ones who are hard to understand. Not monsters.

[blessingone]

It's because you tried more with monsters, isn't it? [ It's a guess, but it seems likely from what she's been saying. ] Something being easier doesn't mean it's better. Some of the most rewarding things come from hard work.

[ Not that Fenimore has been exactly following her own advice lately. ]

No... monsters aren't complicated. People think a lot and do things for a lot of reasons, even all at once. Monsters don't have many reasons like that. They just need one reason, or two, and that's good enough. Monsters don't lie, but people lie a lot.

[ Says the girl who was used by multiple schemers back home... ]

[ ...Some of that she couldn't deny, but still. ]

But you're a person, too. Are you saying you lie a lot?

[wildoldergirl]

[ She shakes her head. ]

I'm a lot like monsters, so I don't like lying. And it's hard.

[blessingone]

Then, if you don't like to lie and you're a person, that means that not all people lie a lot. Not everyone behaves and thinks alike. [ Her tone in the last sentence sounds like she's quoting someone, and she sort of is. ]

There are bad people out there, but there are good people, too. You just...have to find the good ones.

I still like monsters better. People are too complicated.

Well, just so long as you have some friends. Uh, people friends.
