3 Monster Friends [Voice] - Content Warning

[ The thing about having stunted growth, being raised by monsters, and then subsequently raised by a boy around your age, is that sometimes you miss out on being informed about key parts of life.

Arietta sniffles a few times before she manages to address the journal. ]

Is there a doctor... um... Can a doctor come here? A lady would be better... I think.

[ She takes a few unsteady breaths. ]

I don't know what happened. It won't stop bleeding...

[The minutes are actually rather appreciated, given it lets Ion have a few moments to breath and calm back down after what he just had to do. It would probably be for the best if he never mentions this to anyone...]

[By the time she comes out, he's not quite so red in the face.]

Ah... you're welcome. [He even smiles.] I believe there are instructions for when you should change them on the box... and if you run out, they're not too difficult to find in the item shop.

Ion... what's going on? You know what this is, don't you?

...yes, I do. And it's nothing you need to worry about. It's perfectly normal, and something like this happens to all girls once they reach a certain age.

[Which he's probably going to have to explain now, huh...]

[And so they went and Ion explained and did you really think I was going to type out ~THE WONDERS OF PUBERTY: WITH YOUR HOST ION~ here in this thread because hell to the no.]

[But he'll explain it as best he can. And then when she doesn't understand it, he'll explain it and again and maybe a third time in very simple terms until he's certain she understands -- no one wants to have to explain it again in another month, after all.]

[And somehow through it all, he manages to get only a little flushed from embarrassment. But he's so not looking Arietta in the eyes. Not after a conversation like that where suddenly it's very apparent to him that she is a girl and he is a boy and why didn't he think of asking someone else to come with him to help explain things in the way on another woman should.]

[ BUT COME ON, DUDE, PUBERTY TALKS. THEY CAN BE GREAT AND HILARIOUS AND AWKWARD AND FUN. And who doesn't want to talk about the wonders of women--

okay no.

But Arietta will eventually get it, because Ion is wonderful and patient and oh so very helpful. Not that she'll be happy about it. But. She gets it. ]

It's still not fair...

I know it seems that way now, but it's something everyone goes through. I didn't know how to feel when I started going through it, and even now I'm not so sure I'm used to the idea that my voice will sound different than it used to.

[He may have mentioned a little in regards to the boys side of things too, but obviously not too much given that would be a little too-much-information on his part.]

But it doesn't have to be all bad. Growing up means you'll start getting taller, and I imagine stronger as well. [A smile, an a soft chuckle.] You might even get taller than me.

[ But Ion, imagine telling her all the awesome places you're growing hair! ]

... I don't think that will happen. You'll get taller, too. You've always been taller than me, so you'll keep being taller. And you'll be stronger, too.

[Well gosh, that probably gets the most genuine smile out of Ion he's had all day! He's even laughing a bit.]

A-Ah, I'm sorry. I probably shouldn't be laughing. You're right, I'll be getting taller as well. But as for getting stronger... well. I suppose I just can't imagine that. You're already so much stronger than I am, after all.

[ Ion is laughing! She doesn't quite get why, but he's laughing! That's a good thing! ]

That's not true! You're the Fon Master. You can do lots of things that I can't. You're really strong, Ion.

Perhaps there are things that only a Fon Master could do. But if I were stronger, I wouldn't need people to protect me all the time...

But I suppose in that way, I'm actually rather blessed to have so many people who want to protect me. [See dat smile? Dat smile is for you, Arietta. For all that Anise may call Arietta dangerous, there was no denying that if anyone would be willing to protect him, it was her.]

[Even if he's not quite the person she really wants to protect.]

I protect you because you're important to me! Even if you can protect yourself, I don't want you to get hurt. So I'll protect you as long as I can so nothing else bad happens to you.

[It's a strange feeling, to be simultaneously made happy and sad by her words. That's... not something he's ever really heard someone say to him before. After all, Arietta wasn't one to disguise her words, so he knows when she says something like that, she means it. And there's a small part of him that's... happy that she feels that way.]

[But there's still an even stronger part of him struggling to remind himself that those words aren't really meant for him.]

[But is it really so bad to wish that they were?]
