3 Monster Friends [Voice] - Content Warning

[ The thing about having stunted growth, being raised by monsters, and then subsequently raised by a boy around your age, is that sometimes you miss out on being informed about key parts of life.

Arietta sniffles a few times before she manages to address the journal. ]

Is there a doctor... um... Can a doctor come here? A lady would be better... I think.

[ She takes a few unsteady breaths. ]

I don't know what happened. It won't stop bleeding...

[ Then her expression softens again into a smile and she reaches out to pat her on the head. ] Why don't I get you something to eat?

[ She hadn't exactly explored when she went to get Arietta's underwear, but she hadn't really noticed anyone around. Though it seemed like there was a breeze coming from one room as though someone had dived out the window.... It's possible that Arietta's housemates were out right now, and it would be a sad thing to leave the girl to deal with food on her own when coping with this. Especially since Fenimore is still thinking that Arietta is probably 12, maybe 13 at the oldest, rather than just a couple of years younger. She feels that's worth barging into someone else's kitchen without asking. ]

[ Even without the smile, Fenimore feels good about getting her to perk up. She certainly is missing a lot of explanation. Some advice on the cramps. An explanation for what the start of the period means, along with other changes that might have taken place or will be taking place -- it sounds like this girl needs the entire talk. Heck, she hasn't even told her that this is almost certainly going to be happening over and over again every month once it becomes regular.

But for now, she's gotten her from a miserable little girl sniffling on a toilet to...well, to neutral, at least. That is in itself a victory. ]

Well...it'll help a little. [ At the least, not eating would eventually lead to more problems, so it's true in a way. She takes her hand off Arietta's head and claps her hands together. ] Why don't I make you some pancakes? Does that sound good?

[ It's probably a bit late for breakfast, but if she hasn't eaten much since she woke up, it might work at least as brunch. And every kitchen had to have the ingredients for pancakes, right? Flour, sugar, baking power, salt, eggs, and milk...those were normal, right? (Though flour and baking powder might be more common in her mind since she comes from a world where baking is really popular.)

...She probably should investigate this, so, regardless of Arietta's response, she will begin to make her way towards the kitchen. ]

[ Fenimore suspects that she could get it done faster on her own, but, hey, why not? Getting Arietta involved might keep her mind off the cramps and assorted other problems associated with leaking blood, so long as it wasn't anything too involved. ]

If you want to help, then you can lend me a hand finding the ingredients, since this isn't my own kitchen. I'll need flour, sugar, and baking powder.

[ Salt should be easy enough to find. Ditto on the cold ingredients. No need to give too long a list. And with that, they arrive in the kitchen. ]

[ Fenimore was kind of accounting for the possibility that it might take Arietta a while to locate the ingredients, but that gives Fenimore the time to locate the required tools. She briskly goes through the area around the stove -- ugh, electric; she prefers woodstoves -- and produces a frying pan. That'll work.

She glances over her shoulder to see Arietta pulling out the flour. ]

Thanks! That's a big help.

[ Okay, time to preheat the pan and then...bowls. That shouldn't be too hard to find, right? ]
blessingone: (like you could save me)

[ A few cupboards later, and Fenimore has produced a bowl that is big enough to work. She puts it down by the stove and turns to see...just the flour and Arietta still looking. So, when she said they might be over there, she only meant the flour. Possibly not as big a help as she thought.

Oh well. ]

I'll start looking from this end, and you can check from that end. They've got to be in here somewhere.

[ ...She assumes. ]

[ Fenimore herself isn't much past 5'1", so it could be a problem if any of it does end up too high.

On her end, Fenimore looks fairly briskly. Open, glance through, shut, on to the next one. The other ingredients have to be here somewhere, right? ]
blessingone: (out there on the sea)

[ Fenimore turns from her own searching to look at the container Arietta's referring to. Except she can't see the label, either. Dammit, tall shelves!!

But it does look about right, so she bluffs. ]

Um -- yeah. That's it. Just a moment, I'll get it down.

[ Counters may be out of bounds, but chairs are okay in Fenimore's book, so she'll grab one to use as an impromptu stool. Mission succe -- !

Wait. This isn't it. But, with the additional height, she notices a different container labeled baking powder farther back on the shelf.

...

She quietly positions herself to try to block Arietta's line of sight as she swaps the positions of the two and claims the right one rather than admit that she made a mistake. She'll hope that she won't notice the containers look different when she gets down with it. ]

[ Excellent. Deception complete. She sets the container of baking powder down on the counter. ]

I'm fine. Don't worry -- I'm pretty used to climbing on chairs with this height. [ Her grin is a little self-depricating, but she does find it easier to admitting to being short enough to need a chair or the like often enough to someone who is notably shorter. ]

And all that's left is the sugar -- though I guess we could make it without it if we had to. But a kitchen has to have sugar somewhere, right?
blessingone: (did you doubt the curve of the earth)

[ ...She suppresses a sigh. But it's a good idea. High shelves seem to be the thing of the day. ] Not yet.

[ This is a job for the chair! ...Because otherwise it's a job for bouncing undignifiedly. She drags it over -- she nearly asks Arietta to help make it less awkward to carry, but then she remembers the girl is in the middle of her first period and abstains from that -- and gets atop it.

And...well, there seem to be a number of things up here. Possible success? As she roots through the cabinet, she glances down. ]

How tall are your housemates?

[ Not that it really took that much difference to change between someone who struggled with high cabinets and someone who could use them easily. ]

[ Fenimore resists commenting that almost anyone is much taller than Arietta -- resisting it in part because she is not one of those people who gets the "much" qualifier. She's pretty sure she knows what she means, anyway. ]

A...cheagle? What's that?

[ And, as she asks, she finds the sugar hiding behind another container. Taking it out, she notices that Arietta has walked over and hands it down. It would probably be about as easy to just set it on the counter, but it requires less bending down from her position on the chair. ]
blessingone: (not touching that one dude)

...So you keep a fire-breathing monster as a pet.

[ Not that she can judge, since she does have a giant bird monster as a pet, which helps her to contain her tone to just mild skepticism rather than out-and-out disbelief. But...fire-breathing. Strong or not, that sounds like a dangerous thing, especially in a wooden house.

Anyway. Time to hop down from the chair and begin the pancake preparation process. ]

Nothing big, huh....

[ Fenimore's not too sure she would accept even small things being set on fire, but, well, at least it's not her house. Not willing to go searching for measuring cups and the like, she eyeballs the amounts of ingredients to put in almost absent-mindedly -- she's done this a lot. ]

So, are you not much of an animal person? [ She's extrapolating from the comment of not liking cheagles in entirely the wrong direction. ]
